For those of you who don’t know what Quarter Night is all about here is the 411:
Starting @8PM on Mondays and Wednesdays with a $5 cover charge per person to start; bowling games will be only $0.25 (per person per game) and shoes will only cost $2!

With the long weekend here we’d like to wish everyone a happy and safe long weekend. In addition here’s an update on what to expect this weekend:
First, Sunday February 14th we will be extending our hours; we will be open from 9AM until 1AM (12:30AM last games).

Have you ever been to a company party where everyone struggles to make polite conversation? It’s a pretty common occurrence when your company chooses to have the party in a venue where there is nothing to do but talk. Have your corporate holiday party or event at Planet Bowl. We have several party rooms you can use and engage in the fun activity of bowling. Here are some tips for making it happen.
Choose a Date
Our party rooms fill up fast for the holiday season, so set your date as early as possible. You’ll want to make sure key members of your staff as well as lower-level employees can be on hand for your event. Letting them know when to come well in advance of the date can ensure a higher turnout and a more relaxed party atmosphere.
Determine Projected Attendance
Many companies make holiday party attendance mandatory. If you do, you should already know how many people are coming. If not, send out invitations and make it clear you expect employees and other guests to RSVP. Since not everyone who attends may decide to bowl, they also need to let you know if they will be bowling.
Decide How Long to Bowl
Your fee for bowling will be determined by two things: the number of people that participate and the length of time your group spends bowling. The cost is per lane per hour. You may need to choose the length of bowling time based on your budget, especially if it is a tight one.
Remember Bowling Shoes
To eliminate cost for your employees, plan to pay for their bowling shoe rentals. Remember that people who bowl often in their off-work hours might already have shoes. Again, you can find this out by mentioning it in the invitation.
Rent a Party Room
Planet Bowl has several group party rooms you can use. Simply go to our website and choose the number in attendance. We will schedule the room for you and confirm your date and time during our working hours. Or, you can call us or come into Planet Bowl to secure your spot on our calendar.
Since we have a complete, full-sized kitchen, you can easily bring in food for your party. You can even heat up snacks or meals. You can provide hot or cold beverages to your guests and serve their food in the party room.
What is a holiday party without festive decorations? Set the scene however you like, with streamers, centerpieces or by hanging a few decorations on the walls. As long as you avoid damaging anything in the room, you are good to go! Remember to take your decorations with you after the party.

Make sure key members of management get to the bowling center on time so you all can greet your guests when they arrive. Aim for a friendly evening without the need to dwell on work responsibilities. Encourage your employees to relax and enjoy their time as they socialize and engage in the fun activity of bowling.
Benefits of teens engaging in sports like bowling helps them in physical, social and emotional aspects by staying fit, gain more self confidence and take responsibility of their own actions. Additionally, teens learn to train their bodies, their minds and their spirits not only to survive in their world, but to thrive in nearly every aspect of their lives. Here are some of the key benefits teens get from engaging in sports.
It nearly goes without saying that sports can help teens stay fitter. Some people have trouble seeing the physical benefits of certain sports, though. Bowling, for instance, might appear easy to someone who has lifted weights or run marathons but hasn’t bowled. However, bowling is an intensely physical sport that provides an effective workout and increases stamina for other life activities.
Teens who play sports regularly display more self-confident behaviors than those who don’t. They tend to look people directly in the eye, do things on their own initiative when appropriate, and are less vulnerable to peer pressure outside the team.
Studies have shown that teens who play sports do better academically. They stay focused on assignments and work harder to accomplish excellence than others with their same intelligence levels. This busts the myth of the dumb jock who does well at sports but barely passes each grade level in school.
Better Relationships with Adults
Getting along with adults can be quite a challenge for many teens. Yet, when they choose to play team sports, they are forced to overcome this difficulty if they want to excel. Even those who do individual sports often answer to a coach, giving them practice in interacting with adults. Teens who do sports also get more support from adults.

Teens who engage in sports have an excellent chance to bond with their peers. As they do, they also develop better social skills that are not only useful in the sport but also in the rest of their peer relationships.
Less Risky Behaviors
Teenagers sometimes seem prone to behaving in ways that are extremely risky. Whether that’s driving recklessly, drinking or doing drugs, or being sexually promiscuous, the results can be disastrous. However, studies have shown that teens who play sports choose these behaviors less often. While they learn to take calculated risks in play according to their coaches’ directions, they also have many chances to learn the negative effects of rash actions.
More Community Involvement
Teens who work towards goals in their sports practice also enjoy working toward goals for their community. Specifically, teens involved in sports also do more volunteer work than the typical teen.
Young people can also learn what it means to fail by playing sports regularly. That is, although failing is undesirable, it is not the end of the world. They develop the skill of learning from mistakes. They also learn to move on without dwelling on past errors.
During team sports, teens learn to take responsibility for their own actions. They learn that what they do affects their team members as well as the community. Teens come to understand that they need to do their part, regardless of how they feel or what seems easiest at the moment. Sports is not only a fun way to spend time, but it is an effective way to build character and life skills.
Bowling improvement doesn’t happen magically. Experience helps, but repeated mistakes can lead to bad habits. You get better by teaching your body how to handle the ball. Increase your bowling skills with these 10 practice drills to develop your capabilities in the right ways. Do any drill ten times during a bowling practice session for maximum effectiveness.
Athletic Approach Drill
Focus on your athletic posture during your approach. Don’t stand too straight. Instead flex your knees slightly. Concentrate on keeping your head upright and still, especially while releasing the ball. This helps you keep your upper body movements steady.
Footwork Timing Drill
Practice a 4- or 5- step approach. Pay attention to pacing your footsteps consistently. Count slowly during the approach to allow one second per step. Be careful to time the last two steps carefully to avoid hurrying on these most crucial steps.
Swing Start Drill
Work on starting your swing correctly. In a 4-step approach, move the ball steadily outward and downward starting before the first step. Be mindful of pacing to avoid rushing your swing. Practice the same free-flowing motion with very little arm tension at the start of the swing every time.
Swing Path Drill
Do swing path drills. Focus sharply on your sighting target and swing the ball both back and forward along a path toward the target. Then, follow through with your hand and elbow behind the ball along the sighting path.
Hold at the Foul Line Drill
For 10 times, focus only on holding your position at the foul line until the ball passes your sighting target. Sticking to this habit helps you achieve a disciplined attitude toward the rest of your form. Also, going for an ending position that is balanced positively affects all the motions you make leading up to this end.
Target Alignment Drill
Practice lining yourself up with the target to improve your accuracy. Place your left foot 5 boards left of your target (if you are a right-handed bowler). Then, hold the ball at the center of your body before you begin your approach. Continue with the swing as usual.
Blind Bowling Drill
When you are bowling normally, you need to look at the target consistently to achieve accuracy. However, you can do practice drills where you close your eyes after you align yourself with your target. Concentrate on maintaining good form rather than aiming at the target for this drill.
Isolate your swing movements by kneeling with your bowling-side knee on the ground. Deliver the ball toward the target using your arm only. This helps you improve your balance and develop a more natural swing.
Set up a spare. Line up straight with single-pin spares. For multi-pin spares, determine the key pin to line up with and aim at; it is the pin closest to you in the formation. For spares, hold your wrist looser and line up your thumb with the key pin. Release the ball straight and end-over-end.
At-Home Release Balance Drill
Stand in front of a full-length mirror to practice your release. For this one-step drill, follow the same form you would normally follow on the final step of your approach. Focus on maintaining balance, because you can’t deliver the ball to the target accurately, powerfully and consistently if your body isn’t balanced throughout this last step.
We will have limited lanes available on Sunday night, July 12th, in preparation for the Pan Am Games.
From then on Monday July 13th until Sunday July 26th we will be closed completely to the public for the Games! You may still be able to purchase PanAm Games tickets here however they are in short supply as most dates have sold out already! We are excited to be host of this event and look forward to seeing the best of the best compete!
